Give Aloha 2008

Taiko Arts Center is participating in Give Aloha, Foodland's annual community matching gifts program. During the month of September only, customers can donate up to a cumulative total of $249 per person to Taiko Arts Center at any Foodland or Sack N Save checkout. Each donation will be matched up to a total of $300,000 for all organizations combined. You can download the official flyer here.

Rhythm Summit 2008!

Taiko Arts Center is an honored recipient of a $5000 arts grant under the Mayor's Production Grant Program, which will support an East-West collaborative project featuring percussion and drum virtuoso Noel Okimoto, and world renowned taiko artist Kenny Endo. This grant will allow both artists to collaborate equally on composing and performing a new work for taiko and western percussion.

Rhythm Summit 2008 Concert dates!
October 24 and 25, 2008. 8 pm at the Cupola Theatre, Honolulu Design Center.

A concert featuring Noel Okimoto and Kenny Endo with special guest, Dean Taba (bass), "Rhythm Summit 2008" will bring together two world-class percussionists/composers, Kenny Endo and Noel Okimoto, for an East-West collaboration. Kenny Endo is a musician, performer, composer, clinician, and leading force in the contemporary usage of the Japanese taiko drum. Noel Okimoto is a musician, drummer, percussionist, vibist, composer, clinician, and top jazz drummer in the Hawaiian islands. Accompanying Endo and Okimoto, stellar bassist Dean Taba is a respected musician and clinician known for his innovative style and cutting edge compositions.
